Remembering John Matthew for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

On this last day of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, I’m remembering my little cousin, John Matthew Dean. John Matthew was born on November 21, 1993, and passed away in August of 1998 after a battle with a malignant brain tumor. He was four years old.

Kids like John Matthew are why our lab exists. Brain tumors are the leading cause of cancer-related death in children, and too many families still face a diagnosis with too few options. Every dataset we analyze and every target we nominate is in service of changing that for the next child.

To every child and family affected by childhood cancer, and to everyone working to end it: we see you, and we’re not stopping. 💛
