The Rokita Lab

Dr. Bicna Song is a Bioinformatics Scientist in the Brain Tumor Institute (BTI) Bioinformatics Core at Children’s National Hospital (CNH).

Before joining the BTI, Dr. Song completed her postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. Wei Li at CNH.

Dr. Song has pioneered the development of the Perturbation-Response Score (PS) used to analyze single-cell gene perturbation responses. Her expertise spans machine learning for drug sensitivity prediction, CRISPR/Cas9 functional genomics, and single-cell RNA-seq analysis, with applications in cancer biology, immunotherapy, and developmental biology. Through many collaborations with leading research groups, she has contributed to understanding lineage regulators in pancreatic development, tumor suppressor mechanisms in neurofibromatosis, and drug synergy for latent HIV-1, culminating in multiple high-impact publications.

Dr. Song is passionate about dvancing cancer research through bioinformatics-driven discovery. She focuses on developing innovative computational tools to analyze complex biological data, identify therapeutic targets, and uncover biomarkers that can improve precision medicine. Her goal is to bridge biology and data science to accelerate translational research and improve patient outcomes.

Dr. Song completed her B.S. at Chung-Aug University and Ph.D. in Bioinformatics at the University of Science and Technology (UST) in Korea. Outside of the lab, Bicna enjoys spending time with family, exploring new food spots, relaxing at local coffee shops, and visiting farmers markets to discover fresh produce and artisanal goods.
