Dr. Rehman Qureshi is the Assistant Director of the Brain Tumor Institute (BTI) Bioinformatics Core at Children’s National Hospital (CNH), where he leads translational and computational strategy to support cutting-edge research and clinical initiatives.
Prior to joining the team, Dr. Qureshi served as a Principal Bioinformatics Scientist at Carisma Therapeutics, where he led translational bioinformatics for a first-in-human CAR-macrophage cell therapy clinical trial. He designed and deployed scalable cloud-based HPC infrastructure on AWS, enabling large-scale analysis of next-generation sequencing and single-cell datasets across clinical and preclinical studies. His work integrated multi-omic and clinical data to drive biomarker discovery, inform regulatory submissions, and support data-driven decision-making across research and development programs.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Qureshi was a Bioinformatics Scientist at the Wistar Institute, where he collaborated with interdisciplinary teams to analyze complex genomic and transcriptomic datasets in oncology and immunology. He also developed machine learning models for cancer diagnosis and prognosis and contributed to the development of a liquid biopsy test for lung cancer that advanced toward commercialization. Additionally, Dr. Qureshi served as an Adjunct Professor at Drexel University, where he designed and taught a bioinformatics coding bootcamp focused on Python, data analysis, and applied computational biology, mentoring students in practical and research-oriented problem solving.
His expertise spans bioinformatics, machine learning, cloud computing, and large-scale data engineering, with deep experience in RNA-seq, single-cell genomics, and multi-omic integration. He is passionate about using bioinformatics to understand cancer biology and improve outcomes for cancer patients.
Dr. Qureshi earned his Ph.D. in Bioinformatics from Drexel University, where his research focused on microRNA biology and computational analysis of gene expression data. He also holds M.S. and B.S. degrees in Biomedical Engineering from Drexel.
Outside of work, he enjoys working out, riding his bike, and exploring new places.
